Steel to Leeds

We are pleased to be able bring you the first pictures of a welcome return of commercial barge traffic which is now using the upper reach's of the Aire & Calder navigation to Leeds.

The first commercial barge traffic for nearly seven years is now operating on the upper reach's of the Aire & Calder navigation carrying steel to the depot of ASD Metal Services at Stourton. Commercial carrying on the river Aire has always operated to Fleet with the tanker barges of Rix Petroleum running a regular service to the oil storage facility there. This new traffic has seen the upper section of the river Aire being used by commercial traffic once again. ASD Metal Services are undertaking the trial transportation by water of structural steel sections from Humber ports directly to their Leeds site at Stourton Point.

We would like to thank  ASD Metal services Leeds for giving their permission for us to publish these pictures.
