Drax Wharf back in use.

The wharf at Drax power station on the river Ouse near Goole is now back in action. Early in January 2010 over 1.200 Tonnes of Pulverized Fly Ash was loaded onto the coaster "Torrent" for onward shipment to Waterford in Ireland. The ash has many uses including the making of Breeze blocks and many other concrete products. This first load is the fore runner of many more expected this year.  Loading straight onto the Coaster at Drax has saved both over 40 HGV Loads and labour which would normally have travelled across the Pennies to a West coast port for onward shipment to Ireland. It makes sense to load the ship at Drax and cut out the on/off loading of the HGV method. With several more wharfs both on the Ouse and Trent which are all suitable for the loading of PFA the omen looks good for water transport in 2010.
